Eight Finger Licks

For my third column at Chops From Hell I decided I wanted to go further in depth into the eight-finger tapping technique. In this lesson I will cover eight finger runs across the neck. Moving across the neck like this with eight fingers allows you include large intervals into your sound and to play long fluid runs. If you have any questions or comments I can be reached at johndelcalzo@hotmail.com.

Example 1 uses eight fingers to go down the neck. The hardest part of this lick can actually be the stretching involved in the left hand pattern, so make sure you can play the left hand part before adding the tapping.

Example 2 is a group of improvised tapping runs similar to example 1 played in free time. I played this example to illustrate the fluid sound that eight finger tapping can give you.
