Partial Picking - Chromatic Blues Lick in A

Be sure to check out Todd's new Chops from Hell instructional release "ShredOMania".

Instead of picking just the 1st note or all the notes in a phrase, I sometimes use a technique I call "Partial Picking". The 1st four notes of this "Van Halenized" lick are a good example - Instead of picking the 1st or all four notes, I chose to pick the 1st two. This gives it a sort of broken up, choppy aggressive feel. (but not overly aggressive like when you pick all the notes as I did in the last 2 sextuplets). It's a fun technique - check it out! This "Chromatic Blues Lick in A" has a few passing chromatic tones (the b5 and the natural 7) but is mainly within the A Dorian scale. Stop by my site at www.toddduane.com.
