Warm-up is a very important part in the guitar playing. First you have to synchronize your hands, mind & guitar, and then create your ideas, solos, and tunes.
Here I`ll show you a few examples that I use very often. My goal by these simple exercises is to achieve accurate synchronization between the left and the right hands. I try to use all fingers, over all strings. These examples are very useful for alternate picking warming-up.
In example 1, I played 4 notes per string with usual alternate picking “down-up-down-up”.
In exercises 2 & 3, I used a combination of sweep & alternate picking – pay attention to the single notes – the picking is “down-up-down” on the lower string and again “down” when I play the single note on the higher string. By mixing the techniques I can play more cleanly and could increase the speed of playing.
You could try to play these examples only with alternate picking, but remember that all exercises have to be played slowly and carefully first, then increase the speed. The most important thing is to clearly hear all of the tones that you`ve played.

Atanas Shishkov was born in Kardzhali, Bulgaria. He started to play the guitar at the age of 11. Atanas took his first private lessons by classical guitar in the early of 90`s. Later he joined in a band and he has many performances in his hometown. Inspired by Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen, Atanas decided to quit the band and to start exploring the guitar instrumental music. In the middle of 1994 he recorded his first demo project "On The Threshold".
Atanas continued to improve his playing by exploring many "Shrapnel" shredders such as Greg Howe, Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, Tony Macalpine, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Michael Lee Firkins and others, as well as the music of Steve Vai and Steve Morse. Atanas also continued to record his own new guitar instrumental experiments. In the summer of 1997 Atanas joined a band performing jam-sessions in a jazz-rock club in his hometown. He began to explore a lot of jazz players such as Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson and many jazz bands as well.
